2. CDL Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse Annual Query: All carriers and independent owner-operators need to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) CDL Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse and run your first required annual query by the January 5, 2021. Failure to register and run a query could result in a fine of $2,500 for non-compliance.
Background: As of January 5, 2020 all motor carriers, and a long list of others in the trucking industry are required to register in the FMCSA’s Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse database and run an annual query to see if its drivers have had any violations including positive drug tests, any alcohol results with a blood alcohol content greater than 0.04, refusal to test, and any other non-test violations of FMCSA’s drug and alcohol regulation.
Don’t wait until the last minute. The FMCSA’s Clearinghouse database system crashed earlier this year due to overload!
